Are you sick of running in sneakers that feel like the Gambino’s just put you in their infamous cement shoes? Do you want to experience the feeling of running barefoot, yet without the fear of slicing your foot open on that broken St. Ides bottle left in the street? Well if so, the Nike Free Run 3 is the running shoe for you! These are possibly the most comfortable running shoe I have ever owned and at a reasonable price ($100). The Nike Free Run 3 is designed as a minimalist sneaker to allow the runner to experience barefoot running. I wear them without socks and it is extremely comfortable and ventilated so they don’t smell like low tide. The shoe surrounds your foot and holds it firm while the sole is designed to allow the foot to flex naturally. I have to admit that I am not a long distance runner, I run about 12 miles per week, but I did suffer from shin splints and since I started wearing these and the previous Free Run 2 the problem has been greatly reduced if not gone. The shoe is extremely well ventilated and allows air to flow through them, keeping your feet cool. The Free Run 3 is also extremely lightweight at only 9.3 oz (men’s size 10). They are also Nike + compatible so you can track your runs using the Nike + system (not included). I also wear the Nike Free Run 3 when I do my regular workout and again I highly recommend them for that activity as well. There are two down
sides to this running shoe that I have found and other reviews seem to agree with. The first is that if you are not used to running in a minimalist shoe or barefoot your feet may become fatigued at first until the muscles get used to being worked this way and get stronger. This however was not a big problem for me, but I can see how some may be bothered by it. The second is that the inner sole in this version of the Nike Free Run is thinner and offers less support than the previous version, however this does add to the whole “barefoot running” experience. I highly recommend the Nike Free Run 3 for a new running experience and at a very reasonable price.
