These are not your Grandfather’s boat shoes…Well sort of.
Everybody knows the distinctive look of Sperry Top-Sider’s Authentic Original. From the distinctive white sole to the way the leather breaks in, Sperry Top-Sider’s are instantly recognizable. In recent years, Sperry has keep the namesake Authentic Original Collection but added a few more. The Authentic Originals are the classic and Sperry’s consistent seller. They are comfortable after a week or so once the leather softens up and breaks in. MSRP- $85 Rating- 8/10 Buy Here
Sperry’s most distinctive update is in the Boat Lite collection that forgoes the traditional rubber sole for a foam textured sole for a 30% weight reduction. The Boat Lites were very comfortable and surprising long wearing, however they don’t seem to breath as well as the A/O’s. This isn’t a huge issue mainly because you can pull out the insole and clean them if they get all funky. Certainly more of a casual shoe than the originals but they still garner a thumbs up from GearTested. Rating- 7/10 MSRP- $95 Buy Here
Next up is the Gold Cup Collection. Sperry’s Gold Cup shoes utilize higher grade materials as well as calf skin lining on the inside of the shoe. This makes for a far softer shoe the Boat Lites or the Originals. There are also some subtle details like gold plated hardware and a softer sole. Highly reccommended and worth every penny. MSRP- $150 Rating- 9/10 Buy Here
Sperry has also launched the “Cloud Logo” collection as a more fashion forward, updated version of the authentic originals. We loved the insole on the oxfords but the outsole left some to be desired. They wear much quicker than the originals due to the foam that is in contact with the ground. Other than that we had no gripes and the Cloud Logo Oxford earned itself a very respectable 7/10. MSRP- $100
